Team Secret Weapon: Wash Me In Baby Poop!

posted by Sirus

What a busy month! You would think January would be very sedate, with everyone exhausted after all the holiday insanity - not the case at all! Finding the time to do something as simple as paint something, take a picture, and make a blog post about it has been deceptively elusive...

This is what I've been working on:
Mangler Squigs! I've always loved squigs, and when a friend asked if I would paint some for him I jumped at the chance. This is a work in progress; I started with a yellow brown and hit it with a wash of Baby Poop - the wash, not the other stuff. Grow up! (Ok, I admit I snickered a little too.)

I've also been working on some armor for my Lamenters. This is a detail shot of a drop pod in progress, showing about 50% complete with the base coats and some minor detailing. I'm really proud of the wear and tear, I first learned about this technique during one of the Secret Weapon weathering classes at GEG (Justin has a tutorial posted here). Since my basecoat is yellow, I use a combination of Hull Red, Charadon Granite, and Vallejo German Grey. I tried red rust but it didn't look so hot; I found a darker color looked better and looked like wear and tear rather than rust. Small patches of whitish-grey with just a sliver of silver to represent bare metal finishes it off! I could still use some work to perfect the look but I'm happy with it so far and will keep experimenting.

My next tournament will be the Bay Area Open in March, I'll be taking my Lamenters to war and embedding my own personal correspondent to take pictures.
