Weathering Pigments: Using Spray Varnish

I get a lot of questions from folks about what constitutes a "light varnish" to lock pigments in place if you're using a thinner to work with your pigments -- and the best answer to that is a quick video:

How far away to be depends on the varnish you're using. Different brands have different nozzles (fine spray like GW and Vallejo use is always better than the little black nub like I used in the video) -- and as you use the can there's a different volume of propellant. That means there's no easy rule and it's a matter of experimentation and practice... but it's better to be too far, and need more, than too close and need less.

If you're doing it right you shouldn't lose much, if any, of your pigment detail.

As always, if you have a question drop me an email or leave a comment.
