User Gallery: Combining Bases

One of the questions I get asked on a fairly regular basis is whether or not it "looks weird" combining the straight sided Secret Weapon bases with other brands of beveled edge bases. While I certainly don't think so I'm perfectly willing to admit a bit of bias...

Which is why I thought I'd share a photo of my own WIP Vostroyan army. These infantry were based with a combination of Secret Weapon products - including the "Instant Scenery Kit: Winter" and the "Trench Works" and "Urban Streets" bases. If you look closely you can tell that the snipers are on beveled edge bases. I used a couple of plastic blanks I had on hand... but they really blend right in once they're with the rest of the troop.

The trick to effective basing for your army is consistency. This might mean a consistent theme for your unit or squad and it might mean a cohesive theme for the entire army. My own army will make use of three Secret Weapon themes and several stock plastic blanks tricked out with my scenery kits.

And now the boring legal stuff: Vostroyans is a registered trademark of Games Workshop and is used here without permission. No challenge is made to intellectual property or trademarks. These models are shared as a personal hobby demonstration and any opinions expressed about Games Workshop models or trademarks does not represent the opinion of Secret Weapon Miniatures, Inc.
