Time to Roll!

posted by Mathieu Fontaine
Well it is now January, actually half of January has passed by, and it is now to get back in shape. At least paint wise. Most of the month has been spent in rearranging my apartment and workspace but a lot of planning as also been done on a project I intend to present at GD Chicago.

I haven't picked up my brushes yet but the order of priorities has been set and it should be any days now.

#1 Finish this elfish warrior on horse

Crappy picture indeed but I have to tease you a bit. More pics as the work progress on my site.

#2 Give some love to this wonderful rhino!

Some of you might recognize the influence. In fact it looks a lot like Kifaro from Studio McVey. It is in fact from the same sculptor, Allan Carrasco. It will be painted for Crystal Brush at Adepticon, which also reminds me that I have to paint the ship for Dreadfleet for the Celebrity Dreadfleet project.

#3 Project for GD Chicago involving a lot of dead people.

I'll really be a tease on this one for the moment. I promise you will see all the wip shots as it progresses though. Let just say that I intent to rectify a certain lack in my cabinet.

On the Masterclasses front there are a few places available still for the Vancouver Masterclass I at the end of February and the Masterclass II of March. There are talks for a return in Sacramento as well, likely at the end of March. More details to come.

There are also talks for Masterclasses in Nashville, New Jersey area, Boston and the Netherlands. Yes you read correctly. There should be a Masterclass I in Utrecht, Netherlands, on the first weekend of November. Still far away but I'm personally excited to head to the Netherlands.

If you have any questions or requests regarding the Masterclasses do not hesitate to send me an email: akaranseth@gmail.com

So this will conclude this post for the month. Time to get back to work.

We'll do the work for you!

We have added a drop down menu to all of the 95x120mm flight bases that will allow you to add one of our Flight Stand Widgets at the same time -- and if you do, we'll drill the base for you at no additional charge!

The Secret Weapon Flight Stand Widget is a more attractive option than most available flight stand - with a low profile round acrylic rod - and when it's added to a drilled resin base gives you a solid, stable flight stand.

Secret Weapon Miniatures is proud to have been nominated in two separate categories for the 2011 Tabletop Gaming News Reader's Choice Awards.

The Bone Fields bases, the first themed hollow bases and some of the most intricately detailed bases on the market, are up for Best Accessory.

And the 6x6 Rapid Assault Vehicle, designed by world renowned artist Michael Doscher, is up for Best Vehicle against some very strong competition.

Even if you're not voting Secret Weapon this year it's always worth checking out the nominations to see what great products you might have missed.

And for those of you that ARE voting Secret Weapon - you have our thanks!

6x6 Vehicle Kit - The First Review!

Dwartist has posted an in-dept review of the new 6x6 Rapid Assault Vehicle kit on his blog:

http://dwartist.blogspot.com/2012/01/this-is-nice.html

The review includes a complete look at the assembled and un-assembled kit and all of the options.

He also highlights a mold slippage issue on the right (starboard) side wheels -- and if you got a kit with the same problem please contact us for a replacement part.

1-February Shipping Rate Changes

These rates will go into effect on Wednesday 1-February:

USA
$0.01 - $20.00 = $2.99
$20.01 - $50.00 = $5.00
$50.01 - $149.99 = $7.50
$150+ = FREE SHIPPING

INTERNATIONAL
$0.00 - $10.00 = $2.99
$10.01 - $20.00 = $5.00
$20.01-$50.00 = $7.50
$50.01 - $100.00 = $10.00
$100.01 - $150.00 = $15.00
$200+ = FREE SHIPPING

I have broken the international shipping into additional tiers to help keep the rate as low as possible. Unfortunately we pack a lot of orders under $30.00 -- now at $2.99 shipping -- that cost us $9.00 or more to ship. It's a difference we've absorbed for much of 2011 and just can't afford.

These rates won't go into effect until Wednesday 1-February though so you have plenty of time to stock up and take advantage of the current low rates.

Thank you for your understanding.

Team Secret Weapon: Who is Les?

posted by Les

I’m Les. I’m so happy that Mr. Justin contacted me about Team Secret Weapon and invited me to join the team. Our friendship started not too long ago but long enough to see both of our businesses grow, and our names showing up on the search engines. This is just another step in our hobby careers and it’s going to be AWESOME!

So let me give you some back story…

I got into the hobby when I was 17, around 1997. I was sucked in by the challenge to paint models on such a small scale. I did that on and off until I joined the Navy in 2000. During my 8 years in, I had forgotten about the hobby entirely. It was only when I got out that I ‘found’ the hobby again. I was moving some boxes into my new apartment and found some of my old models and the feeling of wanting to paint came back. So around March 2008 I hit the internet hard trying to learn all the new techniques that have come out since I had been out of the loop. I found an abundance of written tutorials and wondered why nobody was making videos in this time we live in. Now, I don’t know about you but I’m a visual learner. So to help the people that learn visually like myself, I decided to make videos. Once I got a concept down I threw up a video showing the process. And that’s how most of you know me; my videos.

See you next month!
